About Me

Hi and welcome! I am Cara and have been involved in Historic Preservation and architectural research for over 10 years. I have served on a several Historic Preservation-related boards, including Preservation Pittsburgh, the State Historic Preservation Board, and the Pittsburgh Historic Review Commission. I’ve worked on a number of historic surveys in the Pittsburgh area as well as on projects for both local historic designations and the National Register of Historic Places. I’ve always loved history and am especially fascinated by the stories buildings can tell us about how past people lived. While I often work in Pittsburgh, I also love rural histories, being a country girl myself!

I am from Montana but have called Pittsburgh home for over a decade. My husband and I have had the fortunate opportunity to live in several wonderful old homes in Pennsylvania. We spent 6 years restoring (alongside equal amounts of love and tears!) an 1890’s Victorian home on Pittsburgh’s north side and then decided to make the move back to the country. We now live in an 1860’s Italianate farmhouse outside Evans City, PA with our kids and an ever-growing number of animal friends.
